Late Adopters Rejoice

apple-iphone-3gsJust in case your aren’t one of the 17 million people who have purchased an iPhone, take heed friendos. You have finally been rewarded. Apple just unveiled the iPhone 3G S and it’s faster and smarter than its predecessors. Yes, the S stands for speed (I wonder how many Appleheads it took to come up with that one.) and it’s up to… get this… twice as fast as the old 3G.

I’ll spare you the embed of the guided tour, since it’s an unwatchable 14 minutes long (Really, Apple?) and break it down for you:

  • Improved speed – sure, why not
  • Video – probably the most exciting aspect and the subject of tomorrow’s post (That’s a tease, folks)
  • 3 megapix camera – good. the old one blew
  • Voice control – meh
  • Compass – cool. might be good for some apps
  • Cut, copy & paste – yawn
  • Landscape keyboard – keyboring
  • And some other not worth it features

Bottom line: if you haven’t bought one, now is your chance to make your early adopter friends jealous. Because the sell prices… they’re only good for new customers. Old customers looking to upgrade are going to have to shell out a few more bucks. Gotta love fine print.

And on a related note: Annie may or may not be selling her iPhone.

Don’t underestimate the importance of cut, copy and paste! You don’t know how much you love it ’til you lose it. It’s really annoying to have to retype messages over and over, especially on the shitty iPhone keyboard. I’m down with CCP!

If you have the very first iPhone (not 3g) you are still able to upgrade for the lower price.

And “yawn” on copy and paste…that’s got to be the most requested feature by far. I’m mos def excited about that.

It appears that I greatly underestimated the importance of such a basic technology. My point was simply this was a feature that should have been included from the get-go. If you’re going to unveil the latest and greatest, make it truly great. Make it innovative. Make it worth it to consumers. Don’t give me “features” that should have been thought of, give me features that no one has thought of.

    I definitely agree with that.
